Balls System in Mahjong Scoring

Mahjong utilizes a variety of scoring systems, but the fundamental principle is consistent: the more intricate the combination of tiles, the higher the points awarded. Below is an in-depth explanation of the basic scoring rules in Mahjong:

Basic Scoring Rules:

Standard Win: If you complete a winning hand, you will receive 10 points.

Pong of Dragons or Winds: If you complete a Pong (three identical tiles) using tiles from the dragons or winds suit, you earn between 10 and 20 points, depending on the variation of the game.

Pure Combination: A pure hand consists of tiles that are all from the same suit (e.g., all Bamboo, all Circles, or all Characters). Completing a pure combination earns you between 40 and 80 points, depending on the complexity.

Secret Hands: Secret hands, such as a hand made entirely of Pongs, are especially valuable and are typically worth at least 50 points or more.

Self-Drawn Hand: If you win by drawing your own tile (without using any tiles discarded by other players), you will double your score with a 2x multiplier. This adds a strategic layer, as winning with a self-drawn hand is often a more difficult feat.

How the Scoring Works: When a player wins a round, the other players must either pay them points or follow a betting system depending on the specific rules in play. The winner is determined by the player with the most valuable hand, or the first player to declare “Mahjong” by completing the required combination of four sets and a pair.

Note: Different Mahjong variations may have distinct rules for scoring, but the core principle remains the same—higher points are awarded for more complex hands, and the player with the highest score or the first to declare “Mahjong” wins the round.
